Apple is killing Lala and taking that team to work on itunes, which at some point will switch over to cloud based services, so you wont actually store music on your hard drive. I don't care for this idea and hope they are doing it for the right reasons.

The big question right now is what Apple plan to do with Lala.
Are they going to update Lala and change music online overnight or will they just use Lala for their iTunes web pages.

I think Apple is ready to do something great in that field, but the labels are not 100% ready for the change, there is still not a strong business model in place.

I think the reason Pandora, Last.fm and others are allowed to do their thing, is that they are still kinda small, right?

I have used both, but am a long time Last.fm user.
While I like the Music Genome Project DNA of Pandora, they simply don't have as much music as Last.fm, who has every band known to man and they list more info about the artists.

I am very glad you took my recommendation on using Pandora vs Last.FM. As far as musical selection goes, in just listening to either, I find that the musical selection on Pandora is much more aimed at exactly what you want. It pinpoints the different musical aspects of a certain genre, song or artist, and seeks other musical selections that mirror the style of your originally selected piece. Through Pandora's musical culling, I have discovered quite a few new artists, that otherwise I may not have heard. I'm not as familiar with Last.Fm; so my view may be slightly biased, but in reading this article, I can see my choice was well placed in Pandora.
